The Credit System

Thang Long University (TLU) delivers the bachelor degree to students having obtained at least 150 credit units, spreaded over a study period of 4 years.

The credit system is used to evaluate the global study volume of each student. One credit unit is equivalent to 13-15 hours of class lectures or to 27-35 hours of practical work, experiment and seminars. Student allowed to make a memoir at the end of their studies can obtain one credit unit for every 40-50 hours of work on their memoir. Students would also need 26-30 hours of personal work for every credit obtained.

Students who are authorized to present a memoir for their bachelor's degree must have obtained at least 120 credits. The length of the memoir working period is about 4-5 months.

Each academic year is divided in three study periods, each of 9 weeks of studying and 4-5 weeks for the passation of examinations. Within each study period, any student is allowed to follow the courses for a maximum of 15 credits. However, top students can obtain a derogation to follow courses for more than the standard scheme.
